END OF TERM 2 ACTIVITIES

BIRD   FEEDERS

After studying native birds we decided to attract birds more to our school. We set about looking at bird feeders on google images and then designed our own. We were so lucky to have 4 parent helpers to assist with the hammers, drills and saws, not to mention the hot glue gun! By the end of the session everyone had made one and put it up around our classroom. The bird seed and fruit attracted many birds as we watched and over the holidays one bird felt so at home that it made a nest on top of the noisy class bell box outside Kea's door!

FINAL DAY TREAT

Kea class loved baking some citrus slice which was our treat as we watched an end of term video. Hmmmmmm!

Mighty Mathematicians in the Making!

Our weight unit was a terrific hands on experience. We learned to weigh objects and read the scales. After a fair bit of practice, everyone got a good feel for how heavy 1g and 1 kg is. Here are some shots of children learning about weight.

FRACTIONS

We are now studying fractions. First we recapped what a fraction is : amounts compared with a whole. We have discovered that :
  • fractions can be more than 1.
  • Adding and subtracting fractions is being learned
  • fraction of a number.
